While northwestern Ontario was up in flames last week, so was MPP Stan Cho’s reputation. He expensed Ontarians $16,000 in Toronto hotel fees despite living in Willowdale, an inner suburb of Toronto. He resigned from cabinet but remains a sitting Member of Provincial Parliament.
At a time when student needs are rising, violence and complex needs in schools are increasing, our Province should be funding our schools, not spending public monies for their own leisure and convenience.
Public expense disclosures show Education Minister Paul Calandra charged taxpayers more than $23,000 for a community BBQ in his riding, over $2,200 for strawberry pancakes, $5,700 dollars in Toronto hotel stays despite living a short 25-minute drive from Queen's Park, and other hospitality expenses.
Since 2018, school boards across Ontario have been underfunded - meaning that they receive less money than what’s necessary to provide quality education to students.
Even the Auditor General in May 2026 reported that most school boards in Ontario spend more money on Special Education than they are funded for.
We need the government to spend money on our students and on our schools - not on hotel and hospitality expenses. This summer, we are convening a flying squad - to meet governing MPPs at their community events, picnics and BBQs, to ask them why they’re failing to stand up for our students.

Thank you for standing up for publicly-funded education!
